Bolo Ties

Bolo Ties are a distinctly southwestern style. But these unique Native American jewelry pieces have an interesting history:

Many trace the Bolo Tie back to the 1940’s in Arizona. It is said that a silversmith, Victor E Cedarstaff along with a group of his cowboy friends were chasing wild horses when Vic’s Silver bordered hatband got caught by the wind and flew off. Vic chased and captured his precious hatband and put it around his neck for safe keeping. When Vic’s fellow riders admired his new “tie” he changed some of his fancy hatbands to ties.

Cedarstaff is credited with using braided leather and to keep the ends from fraying he added silver tips to his ties. Vic applied for a patent and called his accidental creation a “Bola Tie”, similar to the boleadora of Argentinian Cowboys. “And the rest as they say is history.”

Who Wears Bolo Ties?

Throughout the world the Bolo Tie has been adopted by those who enjoy a strong distinctive style. Now you may see them around the neck of a country singer like Blake Shelton, a rocker like Jon Bon Jovi or an NFL star such as Phillip Rivers.

The Bolo Tie has also appeared on female fashion trend setters like Pink and Jennifer Lopez. These ladies have shown us how a Bolo Tie can complement a scarf or highlight your assets in a tube top.
